Jazz Channeled from the 1960s

Indigo Skye is an improvisational guitar collaboration between Tom Heaney & Barb Cheron. Our music is a personal flavor of jazz informed by the 1960s. This was a time of unique artistic and cultural transformations reflected in the music. We grew up hearing Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Ramsey Lewis, Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock and host of others whose innovation reflected the spirit of the times. All shared a sense of evolution, revolution, and innovation. Cross fertilization of these genres created a richness and an integration with listeners who embraced many versions of musical truth telling.

In this spirit that Indigo Sky builds on jazz sounds of the 1960s. We incorporate elements of soul, funk, R&B, Blues, & other genres. The result is a fresh take on jazz standards and a post-1960s progression into the music of Roberta Flack, Bill Withers, George Benson and others. This music is rich in melodic, harmonic & rhythmic innovation. Our musical journey begins with 2 guitars but will likely include collaborations with our circle of jazz friends. Stay tuned!
